Effective [date]
The short version
- Subscriptions renew automatically, monthly or yearly, until you cancel. We email you about a month before a yearly renewal.
- You can cancel any time from inside Oakshield, by email, or by phone. There's no cancellation fee.
- If you stop paying, scam protection keeps working; only virus checks pause.
- Oakshield greatly lowers the risk of scams and viruses, but no software can promise to stop every one.
1. The agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and [legal business name] ("Evergreen", "we", "us") for the Oakshield program for Windows, its browser extension, the oakshield.app website and Oakshield subscriptions (together, "Oakshield"). By installing Oakshield or buying a subscription, you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains how we handle information.
2. Who can use Oakshield
You must be at least 18 to buy a subscription. You may install Oakshield on computers you own or are allowed to look after.
Installing Oakshield for someone else. Many people set Oakshield up for a parent or relative. That's what it's for, but you need their agreement, because Oakshield can tell you about warnings on their computer. Don't use Oakshield to watch anyone without their knowledge.
3. What Oakshield does
Oakshield watches for signs of scams and harmful software, and warns about them. It may block programs, close web pages, remove harmful commands from the clipboard, and set aside (quarantine) files it believes are harmful. It suggests removing programs it considers risky or unwanted, which can include some free antivirus or "PC cleaner" programs, and only removes them if you or your helper agree. Quarantined files can be restored by your helper.
Oakshield is meant to work alongside Microsoft Defender, not replace it.
4. Subscriptions and automatic renewal
- Plans. Individual covers one computer; Family covers up to 10 computers. Current prices are on oakshield.app/buy.
- Automatic renewal. Your subscription renews automatically at the end of each month or year, and we charge the payment method you gave, until you cancel. The price is the one shown when you subscribed unless we tell you about a change (see below).
- Reminders. We email you about 30 days before a yearly subscription renews, with the date and the amount.
- Price changes. We'll email you at least 30 days before a new price applies to your subscription. You can cancel before then.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails, Oakshield keeps working fully for 14 days while you update your card. After that, virus checks pause until payment succeeds; scam protection stays on.
- Taxes. Prices include or add any sales tax as shown at checkout.
5. Cancelling
You can cancel at any time:
- in Oakshield: Settings, then Manage subscription, then cancel on Stripe's secure page; or
- by emailing admin@oakshield.app or calling [support phone number].
Cancelling stops future charges. Your subscription keeps working until the end of the period you've already paid for. There's no cancellation fee.
6. Refunds
[Your refund policy. Suggested: "If you're not happy with Oakshield, email us within 30 days of any payment and we'll refund that payment in full. After 30 days, payments aren't refunded, but you can cancel to stop future charges."]
7. Protection that stays free
Oakshield's scam protection (blocking strangers taking control, closing fake warnings, blocking the "paste this command" trick, blocking scam websites, family alerts and caller checks) works without a subscription. We may improve or change features over time, but we won't take scam protection away from people who stop paying.
8. Computer shops (partners)
Some computer shops offer Oakshield to their customers as our partners. If you bought Oakshield through one, your subscription is still with us and these terms apply, but the shop is your first point of contact for help. Partners are independent businesses, not our employees or agents, and any separate services they sell you (such as repairs) are between you and them.
9. Using the software
We give you a personal, non-transferable right to use Oakshield on the number of computers your plan covers, for as long as you follow these terms. Please don't copy, resell, reverse-engineer or tamper with Oakshield, or use it to break the law or to harm or spy on anyone. Oakshield includes open-source components that come with their own licences.
10. Updates
Oakshield updates itself automatically to keep protection current. Updates are digitally signed, and Oakshield refuses any update that isn't. New versions may reach some computers before others.
11. No guarantee
We work hard to make Oakshield reliable, but scammers and harmful software change constantly. Oakshield is provided "as is", and we can't guarantee that it will find or stop every scam, virus or threat, or that it will never make a mistake, such as warning about something harmless. To the extent the law allows, we disclaim all other warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose.
12. Limit on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for money taken by scammers or criminals, and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us for Oakshield in the 12 months before the claim. Some states don't allow these limits, so they may not apply to you. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have by law that can't be waived.
13. Ending this agreement
You can stop using Oakshield at any time by uninstalling it and cancelling your subscription. We may suspend or end a subscription that's being abused (for example, an activation code shared publicly), and will refund any unused prepaid time unless the abuse was deliberate.
14. Disagreements
If something goes wrong, please contact us first. We'd much rather fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of [state]. Either of us may bring a claim in small claims court, or otherwise in the courts of [county and state].
15. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll post the new version here and email subscribers at least 30 days before it applies. If you don't agree, you can cancel before then.
